Built in 1932 under the auspices of the notorious gangster, Al Capone and bookie/gambler Ed Welch; The Castle was used as a clandestine gambling casino in the 1930’s. Gambling symbols are actually embedded in the front rock walkway as a reminder of its prohibited activities. After the gambling operation was abolished, The Castle was reincarnated to a restaurant during the 1940’s and saw the likes of Bob Hope, Spencer Tracy and other film stars that were filming in the area.
